Fed: GST to blame for inflation Crean

Opposition treasury spokesman SIMON CREAN blames the GST for today's inflation hike.

Mr CREAN says the government has ruined the low inflation environment by introducing
the GST regime.

Prices rose 0.9 per cent in the March quarter, lifting the annual inflation rate from
1.8 per cent to 2.8 per cent.

Federal Treasurer PETER COSTELLO says soaring world oil prices and rising house costs
are to blame for the worst figures in four years.
